Pledge 1% Colorado
Pledge 1% Colorado is a non profit based in the Denver area that asks local businesses to donate 1% of their equity, time, products, or profit to help make the community a better place.
THE CHALLENGE
The goal for this project was to inspire more people to sign up to pledge 1%. Through primary and secondary research I found out what other non profits were offering their members and what made their organizations inspiring. I also interviewed many members and potential members to see what their expectations from a charitable organization were and what would attract them to be a part of one.
IDEATIOn
After looking at all of the information that I had gathered I started to come up with ideas on how to make the website more emotional and enticing. I wanted to add more photos, quotes, and true stories about what the organization did. I also wanted to add a "Community and Events page". Everyone I spoke to felt that they wanted to network with the other businesses that were involved in Pledge 1%. I wanted people to be able to volunteer together, help each other through meetups, and just have the opportunity to have fun together, while helping the community.
I started sketching out wireframes and thinking of how the website would work and what the most important features to the current and future users were. Once I had my ideas down on paper I started doing black and white low fidelity wireframes in Adobe Illustrator.
High Fidelity Wireframes
I moved on to adding color and images to tell the full story of Pledge 1% Colorado.
SolutionS
I made an interactive protoype showing the new website with all of the updated features that I had added for the users. After that I did tests with users on Usability Hub to get feedback on how navigable the site was and if they had design/feature challenges. I made sure that the design was user friendly and that people responded to its appearance.
A huge part of the redesign was just adding more photos of Colorado since this is a local organization that is proud of it's state. I also wanted photos of people in the community helping eachother and having fun. I added portraits of the board and offered their emails so people could reach out with questions, making them more accessible and therefore more trustworthy. I added a member spotlight page so that companies could be recognized and tell the stories of the work that their own teams had done. Lastly, I added the events calendar. This made it possible for members to network and work together on larger projects to help the community and also to connect in a fun way. On this page companies can actually PLEDGE an event- so Pledge 1% can have their name on a party that someone else is hosting. This could be an exit party, a networking event, a meetup, or even a community volunteer day. This would get members involved and more people wanting to be a part of the non profit that helps their own local community.
